I created my first web site about 10 years ago. It was quite expensive to my to buy a real hosting plan and my own domain name. I decided to use a free hosting from xoom. In the beginning it was fine, because it worked with no problem. But in one year xoom added a big panel full of banners. Now I hate all free services and I don’t trust them.
Nowadays hosting is much more affordable and you can buy your own domain + own web space for less then 2 cups of coffee. And you don’t need to worry about anything.
What I like about real hosting is you are in control of your web site rather than being locked into only the themes, functionality and services free hosting offers you. For only $4+ (depends on the company you choose) you can get full LAMP (Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL) stack for your web sites or web applications. I have two plans: Linux and Windows and I pay about $20 a month. I’ve got unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth for my money and I use these plans for my 10 web sites.
