HTC Surround keyboard layout
I really don't understand why HTC and AT&T blocked HTC Surround windows phone to use only English keyboard. I don't understand why Microsoft doesn't allow me installing any language or keyboard layout I want.
Apple doesn't block anything like that on iPhone. I can easily buy iPhone in the North America and use it in Russia or China with no restrictions. People around the world were able to use iPhone even when it was officially available only in the USA.
I really cannot understand the reason of blocking languages. If anyone could install his/her native language on the windows phone the platform would be more popular. There are a lot of people from different countries in the North America who want to write messages in his/her native language. I'm the one. But I cannot write my messages in Russian.

Windows Phone Marketplace doesn't work
I couldn't download any updates or new applications from windows phone marketplace. Each time I tried to download I saw a system error: Can't get this info right now. Check back in a little while. I'd tried different networks and different live accounts to download but with no luck.
Yesterday I found the real problem - it is an Internet Explorer issue. Go to your browser settings and make sure you allow Cookies in your browser. Do not use Desktop browser. Switch to using Mobile version if you use Desktop one. My marketplace started working fine after I switched browser type to Mobile.

Kinect, review
I bought a new kinect controller as a Christmas gift for my children. I hadn't known would I play kinect games myself. Now I can say it is a real fun for everyone, not only for children. But children love it most. If you don't like kinect, you are too old or you like action games.
Not every genre can be successfully ported to use the kinect controller. I can't imagine how to play shooters, but most of arcade games will be successful on this market.
It was difficult for me to play strategy games like Civilization or C&C on Xbox. Selecting and pointing on the game map are like pain. It is better to use a mouse for such games.
Kinect can change the world of strategy games on consoles. I like playing strategy games. I'm looking forward to try something like The settlers with kinect.

uPad - Ubuntu mobile platform
First of all uPad is not a real product. It is a work that came to my mind when I first time heard about Ubuntu for mobile devices. I don't know the real name of the platform but uPad is quite possible name. It sounds cool and familiar to all iPad users.
I heard the word that Canonical can announce Ubuntu mobile devices with LG this CES. Gerry Carr, Canonical's Director of Communications denies any rumors. He said: "We have no plans to announce anything with LG next week. Every CES we see a bunch of new developments and devices built on Ubuntu, many of which we, Canonical, are involved in and many we are not. That's the nature of open source after all". But it doesn't mean this device will not be available at all. I'm sure Canonical wants to have any partnership with any mobile device manufacturer.
I know that Canoniacl's target is to have mobile Ubuntu ready for use on a phone or tablet within 2 years. Are you kidding? Two years? Who needs a new mobile OS in two years? In two years there will be no place for Ubuntu on mobile market.

Is it worth to buy iPhone 5
Apple has unveiled the next iPhone 5. It’s nice, it’s good, but I was expecting something more. Right now I use iPhone 4S and I feel fine to use it in the next year. I’m not going to but iPhone 5 just to get a bit bigger screen and better processor. I’m fine with the screen I already own and I like the performance of the 4S version.
But what I know for sure – my next smart phone will be iPhone any way. I like Apple products because the company cares about all customers. iOS 6 will be available to all devices starting from iPhone 3GS. That is really great.
About a year ago I made a very big mistake. I bought HTC Surround that runs in Windows Phone 7. The phone itself is not bad but Windows Phone OS is very bad. I bought the phone to start developing for the platform and I was expecting to get Windows 8 for free. But Microsoft doesn’t cares about us and I will not get this update even for money. It’s the worst scenario ever.

Google has launched it's own laptop
Does it mean Google now directly competes with Apple, Microsoft and all of the others in the space on the desktop market? Yes and no. Yes, Google is trying to compete, but this laptop is way too expensive - $1299 US for WiFi version.
Google cannot compete with Microsoft directly, because Microsoft doesn't produce hardware. I think Microsoft produces only keyboards, mouses and Surface tablets. But Google will compete with HP, Del, Asus, Lenovo etc.
The biggest problem of the new platform - It doesn’t allow any software on the desktop. It’s for use with web-based services only. I already have such devices - iPad, iPhone. You might have android devices that already allow users to work in the cloud or in restricted area on their devices. I have all this. Now I need a device where I can be God.
